The Central European Initiative (CEI) has opened the call for participants for the 2026 edition of the Advanced Training Course “Challenges and Perspectives of Science Diplomacy in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe”.
The course will take place in Trieste and Gorizia, Italy, from 24 to 27 November 2026. It is co-organised by the CEI, the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Trieste and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, with the support of the European Union Science Diplomacy Alliance, the FVG Scientific and Innovation System, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics and Area Science Park.
The training aims to build capacities in science diplomacy, its evolution in the European and global context, and its application to real-world examples and case studies. Over four days, participants will take part in lectures, interactive sessions, roundtables and a study visit to research infrastructures.
The call is open to candidates affiliated with organisations based in CEI Member States, including diplomats, civil servants, scientific officers, administrators in research and higher education institutions, journalists, NGO professionals, business representatives, graduate students and others professionally engaging with science diplomacy topics.
Up to 30 participants will be selected. A number of mobility grants of up to EUR 600 will be available as reimbursement for travel and accommodation costs.
